Outstanding, competitive companies are distinguished from the rest by two basic principles: understanding that consistent innovation is the key to survival and knowing that the most powerful changes are those that create value for customers and potential customers.
Abstract
Competitive companies use the five steps described here to look at innovation systematically. Management sets up organizations that can create and sustain an environment that values better performance above all else, structure the organization to permit innovative ideas to rise above the demands of running the business, clearly define a strategic focus so that the company channels its innovative efforts realistically, effectively search for good ideas and then leverage them, and pursue good ideas using all available company resources.
