This newsletter (first edition) is designed for users of the Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Crime (STAC) spatial statistical package developed by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.
Abstract
The package is designed to support crime analysts with a statistical toolbox containing a set of alternative instruments for converting spatial data into spatial information. STAC consists of a Time Analyzer and the STAC/Space module, which analyzes the distribution of events on a map. STAC/Space includes automatic searches for two kinds of hot spot areas, nearest neighbor analysis, mean center, and radial searches for events around a specific location. This newsletter contains short articles on the Baltimore County Police Department's use of STAC to fight Halloween-related incidents, auto thefts, robberies, and drug markets; a spatial seminar to be held in August 1993; and the development in Chicago of the Automated Early Warning System for Street Gang Violence Crisis Areas.
