Ninety-four percent of the crimes were property offenses and 5 percent were violent crimes; violent crime rose by 7 percent (a 6-percent rise in personal violence and a 17-percent rise in robberies). Vehicle crimes were up 3 percent over the previous year, while the increase in 1991 was 18 percent. Crime rates fell in the City of London and Northumbria, but rose in all other police force areas, albeit by smaller amounts than the previous year in most cases.
