This video instructs citizens in the stages of criminal justice processing, using a simulated robbery case.
Abstract
The video dramatizes the processing of the case from the time of the robbery, which involved some injury to the victim, through the disposition of the case. The instruction focuses on the victim's experience in interacting with criminal justice personnel as the case progresses through the system. The interaction is within the context of the criminal justice system's effort to build evidence sufficient to obtain a conviction. The victim is referred to a victim-witness assistance program, which provides or refers the victim to the services required to meet various victim needs. The primary victim need addressed is the fear of the unfamiliar procedures of the criminal justice system and the demands and consequences these have for the victim. The intent of the video is to ensure crime victims that the services provided by criminal justice personnel and related service agencies will ease rather than aggravate the victimization experience.
