This document explains the role and procedures used by the Washington State Patrol Crime Scene Response Team, a project designed to provide a comprehensive investigative capability for crime scene investigations at the request of any law enforcement agency in the State.
Abstract
The team is a joint effort of the Crime Laboratory Division, the Traffic Investigation Division, and the Identification Section. It combines skills, equipment, and personnel into a single responding unit to respond to deaths other than traffic fatalities, sexual assaults, kidnappings, assaults or shootings involving a law enforcement officers, and other felony crimes as required by circumstances. A coordinator handles each request for service, gathers information, and notifies each agency. A variety of equipment is available to the team. Participants are skilled in collecting and preserving all types of evidence, developing and preserving latent fingerprints, diagramming and photographing crime scenes, and many other investigative techniques.
