This manual presents material designed to help police training instructors in developing appropriate lesson plans to cover performance objectives related to dealing with disabled persons.
Abstract
Each section outlines relevant principles and performance objectives as well as a detailed curriculum. The curriculum covers communicating with deaf or hearing impaired persons, communicating with the blind or visually impaired, laws protecting persons with disabilities, and requirements for detention and rights of persons detained under California law. Other topics include disabilities of persons exhibiting unusual behavior, symptoms of mental illness and developmental disability, alternative methods of evaluation and treatment, risk factors of postpartum psychosis, and actions to assist sufferers of postpartum psychosis.
