The papers describe several models of case management in use with a variety of drug abusing populations in a variety of settings. Some of the studies have been completed, while others are starting or are in their mid- phase. All the studies are gathering both quantitative and qualitative data; they include both randomized clinical trials and evaluation studies. Some compare case management alone to a standard intervention, while others compare case management plus one or more additional interventions to a standard intervention. Participants discussed both research and service delivery issues, including barriers to obtaining resources, gaps in services, development of community linkages, model development, the ratio of clients to case managers, cost-effectiveness, testing and measurement, and the background and education of case managers.
