This report contains the Judicial Business section of the annual report of the Director of the Administration Office of the United States Courts, which covers the workload of the Federal courts over the past fiscal year.
Abstract
Following a description of the workload in U.S. Courts of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the report covers the civil and criminal workloads of U.S. District Courts, as well as U.S. bankruptcy courts. The section on probation and pretrial cases discusses the Federal probation system, pretrial services, substance abuse identification and treatment services, petit juror activity, grand jury activity, and Criminal Justice Act appointments. The budgetary authority for fiscal year 1992 and budget estimates for fiscal year 1993 are presented. In reporting on judicial personnel, the report covers the status of Article III judgeships, the status of bankruptcy judge appointments, and the professional background and qualifications of magistrate judges. 18 tables and 1 appendix
