This document presents an outline, visual aids, and extensive background readings for a training course on the use of a leadership team approach to the management of change in the courts.
Abstract
Part of the North Carolina Court Management Pilot Program, the course lasted 1.5 days and took place November 23-24, 1992. The course included sessions focusing on the differing perspectives relating to leadership and management, the importance of integrating the judicial and managerial cultures of the courts, and team development and the process of delegation. Other sessions focused on the intellectual recognition of the need for change, understanding and managing resistance to change by addressing emotional factors, institutionalizing the results of change by avoiding the illusion of progress, and the characteristics of successful change.
