The NACRO Race Issues Advisory Committee was established in 1983 for the eradication of racial discrimination in England's criminal justice system. In a 1991 survey, 75 percent of Afro-Caribbeans, as well as 48 percent of whites, reported that they believe such discrimination takes place. In 1992, ethnic minorities represented only 5 percent of the general population but 16 percent of the prison population. Conversely, minorities, especially blacks, are underrepresented as workers within the criminal justice system. Data are given on the particulars as are suggestions for what to do about the situation. Also included are reviews of race policies, training developments over the last 10 years, and the committee's past published reports.
