This is the curriculum for a day-long program that provides to State court judges information about violence when it occurs within the family unit.
Abstract
The goals of this program are to: (1) help judges understand the counterintuitive nature of family violence dynamics; (2) enable judges to respond appropriately within the judicial forum to family violence; and (3) assist judges in crafting appropriate orders. Following are some of the topics considered in this program: (1) The dynamics of family violence; (2) Seeking a protective order; (3) Assessing credibility of the petitioner; (4) Legal issues; (5) Family violence and visitation rights; and (6) Model programs.
