Since all 1992 data were not available at the time this report was produced, most data are for 1991 with the exception of general trends data. The report chronicles much information that is uniquely available through the National Crime Victimization Survey, including: (1) the amount of crime; (2) trends in crime; (3) characteristics of rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft; (4) the consequences of crime, including injury and economic loss; (5) the victims of crime; (6) violent crime offenders; (7) the relationship between victim and offender; (8) the amount of crime in schools; (9) times when crime occurs; (10) the extent to which weapons are involved in crime; (11) how victims of violent crime protect themselves; and (12) the percentage of violent crime that is reported to the police. The report is presented in a binder that also includes color slides from the Survey highlights and five homicide slides from Vital Statistics of the United States.
