Supported by philanthropic contributors, government grants, membership dues, and contributions, the National Council provides continuing judicial education; offers technical assistance to courts and agencies concerned with families and children; conducts research on regional and national trends and phenomena in juvenile and family law; and publishes periodicals, texts, and monographs for use by the judiciary, allied professionals, and the general public. Major projects described in this report pertain to the prevention of alcohol and substance abuse, the enforcement of court-ordered child support, the investigation of how learning disabilities affect juvenile delinquency, and the situation of serious and violent juvenile offenders. The National Council is also examining the implementation of programs to place abused, neglected, and abandoned foster children in permanent homes. This report provides information on the National Center for Juvenile Justice, the National College of Juvenile Justice, and future plans for the Continuing Education Center.
