This volume contains proceedings of the International Seminar organized by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and the Instituto Internazionale di Studi e Informazione Sanitaria, under the aegis and the support of the Italian National Research Council, Rome, June 27, 1990. Seminar members discussed prevention of demand for drugs, rehabilitation of drug addicts, control of production, and legal action.
Abstract
Speakers at the seminar presented papers on a variety of topics, including: (1) judicial and legislative aspects of drug abuse; (2) epidemiological situation of drug abuse in Italy; (3) drug abuse and the Italian school system; (4) drug addiction in Italian prisons; (5) drug abuse and AIDS; (6) prevention and control; (7) the role of WHO in drug abuse prevention; (8) some theoretical and practical issues concerning primary prevention of drug abuse; (8) the role of research in the secondary prevention of drug addiction; (9) tertiary prevention; (10) the STOP DROGA program; (11) pharmacological prevention of heroin addiction; (12) individual, political and economic prevention, and prevention in the school, at work, and in the community; and (13) the fight against money laundering in the prevention of the drug supply.
