Abstract
The guidelines are intended to help manage urgent conditions until the patient can be treated at the next scheduled dental clinic. The guidelines cover dental first aid supplies; fever blisters, cold sores, and canker sores; inflamed or irritated gum tissue and bleeding gums; toothaches; bleeding after an extraction; and broken or displaced teeth. They also deal with traumatic loss of permanent teeth, jaw dislocation or fracture, orthodontic emergencies or problems, wisdom tooth eruption, lacerated lip or tongue, and objects wedged between teeth. Procedures are described for administering warm salt water rinses, caring for tooth extractions, temporary fillings, and dispensing and mixing intermediate restorative material.
