This user's guide to correctional technology is based on the findings from national surveys conducted to determine the experience of correctional administrators with seven areas of correctional technology: perimeter security systems, locks and locking systems, internal detection systems, monitoring and surveillance systems, fire safety systems, communication systems, and management information systems.
Abstract
The 18-month research project began in 1991 and involved a literature search, development and reviews of questionnaires by experts, data collection and analysis, and preparation of the user's guide. Overall, the surveys had a 93 percent response rate. This user's guide is intended to help correctional administrators become more knowledgeably involved during the selection and use of the technologies. The user's guide does not endorse any product or type of product, nor does it support one technology over another. Its intent is to provide administrators with an unbiased compilation of experiential information as supplied by their colleagues. Tables, study instruments, user questionnaire, and 53 references
