The discussion focuses on the position of the police in State administration; the jurisdiction of the police; the powers delegated to the police chief; the direction, control, compensation, and welfare of the rank and file police officers; the distribution of patrol units and the patrol methods they use; criminal investigation; identification; and crime prevention. Reference is made throughout the text to the United States experience in municipal police administration. The conclusions are based on an analysis of the laws and other printed materials related to State police, as well as personal observations of each police agency in operation.
