Published three times yearly by the Correctional Service of Canada, this publication reviews applied research related to corrections policy, programming, and management issues.
Abstract
Articles included in the issue include a consumer's guide to reading and understanding correctional research and papers on raising awareness of persons with disabilities in the Canadian correctional system, older offenders, and effects of neuropsychological impairment on offender performance in drug abuse treatment. Additional articles focus on hearing loss in Canada's inmate population, the accessibility of Ontario's correctional facilities to people in wheelchairs, correctional staff with disabilities, a centralized approach to managing special needs offenders, training staff to work with special needs offenders, and alternatives to incarceration for elderly offenders and offenders with disabilities. Finally, consideration is given to legal issues related to correctional facility design and accessibility for offenders with disabilities and improving access to the criminal justice system through legislative change.
