This resource guide lists and describes 54 Louisiana based programs dedicated to the primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention of violence and the support of victims for 1994.
Abstract
Its main goal is to help people become proactive through violence prevention. The programs provide help with child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, elder abuse, school-based programs, substance abuse and prevention, victim support, and youth violence prevention. Programs are arranged in alphabetical order, and each entry includes the address, a contact person, a brief description of the program, the budget and number of clients served, the target population, and the communities served. The final section lists organizations that can refer clients to counselors. The directory's focus is on community-based programs that reach broad groups of people, particularly juveniles. Drug-rehabilitation programs, psychiatric hospitals, and private therapists treating people with violence problems are not included. A geographic listing of resources and an index are appended.
