This report presents statistics on bias-motivated criminal incidents reported to the FBI during 1992 through the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system.
Abstract
The data collection system for hate crimes is designed to capture information about the type of bias serving as the motivating factor, the location of the crime, and various characteristics of both victims and offenders. The first section of this report includes statistics on crimes including murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, arson, simple assault, intimidation, and destruction of property and vandalism. Data for 1992 were supplied by 6,181 law enforcement agencies across the country. Section II of the report contains tables showing participation levels of States and counts of hate crimes reported by individual law enforcement agencies. 18 tables and 1 appendix
