This document records Congressional testimony presented on the issues of crime, violence, and drugs in the District of Columbia.
Abstract
The testimony included prepared statements from several Representatives, well-known area athletes, substance abuse prevention counselors, students from area schools, and youth agency workers. Prior to these hearings, high school students en masse were brought to Congress to testify on the concerns they had relating to the issues of crime and drugs in their schools and communities. Some of the points they brought out concerned the materialism in society that is a chief factor in drug trafficking, the influence of television violence on youth, the need for improved parental skills, the need to renew moral values, the value of peer counseling programs, the concern about safety that the students shared, and their willingness to work together to resolve these problems.
