The primary mission of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is to support national drug control efforts by improving the criminal justice system. This mission is accomplished, in part, by providing both financial and technical resources to State and local governments. BJA's State and Local Training and Technical Assistance Program supports a formula grant program that provides training and technical assistance to State and local jurisdictions. Specific goals of the program include the development and implementation of strategies to prevent and combat drug- related and violent crime. The survey methodology and findings reported here are designed to identify training and technical assistance needs that might be targeted under BJA's training and technical assistance program. A mailed questionnaire was used to collect information from the 56 State Administrative Agencies. The survey solicited information on training currently provide in-State, operational programs receiving formula grant funding, and assistance needed through BJA's program.
