Murders from domestic assault declined from 60 to 52 between 1992 and 1993. Assaults accounted for 57 percent of the reported offenses in 1993. The total arrests increased 22 percent from 1992 to 1993; arrests occurred in 36 percent of the reported offenses in 1993. Sunday was the most common day for domestic violence to be reported. Thirty percent of the offenses were reported to occur between 8 p.m. and midnight. Females were the victims in 83 percent of the cases. The number of domestic violence complaints in which prior court orders had been issued against the offender increased from 12,051 in 1992 to 15,631 in 1993. Alcohol, other drugs, or both were involved in 41 percent of the reported offenses; alcohol involvement alone accounted for 35 percent of the offenses.
