This color image processing program can be used by police laboratories in forensic digital image enhancement. Some areas of latent fingerprint enhancement have revealed that capturing the image in color provides more enhancement capabilities than monochrome input. In many cases, a ninhydrin-developed latent fingerprint, scanned in color, can be better processed than one captured or scanned in black and white. The more complete and accurate the information one has in the computer prior to processing an image, the better the final product will be. The author speculates that color could the analysis of prints developed with various dyes and stains, including those using a laser for excitation. Further research using a color video camera is needed to resolve this issue. 8 figures and 1 reference
