Abstract
The Board is part of the State's Executive Department and is governed by five Board members who are appointed for 7-year terms by the Governor with the advice and consent of the State Senate. In 1991-1992, the Board heard and determined all claims for awards filed pursuant to State law, directed medical examination of victims, maintained a special investigative unit to expedite processing of claims by senior citizens, advised the governor in developing policies to recognize the legitimate rights of victims, coordinated State programs relating to crime victims, and conducted research into matters affecting the interests of crime victims. In addition, the Board sponsored conferences, served as an information clearinghouse, and provided grants to local crime victim service programs. The report provides statistics on compensation awards granted and denied by the Board, and describes its public awareness and outreach efforts.
