This directory includes information on federally funded resource centers and clearinghouses that serve as repositories of information on child and family welfare, health, and education issues of interest to States and communities.
Abstract
Many of these resource centers and clearinghouses have an active interest in interdisciplinary work. They can offer information to States and communities in subject areas important to service integration. The National Center for Service Integration, which publishes this directory, defines service integration as "the process by which a range of education, health, and social services are delivered in a coordinated way to improve outcomes for individuals and families." Effective service integration initiatives emphasize comprehensive services, early intervention and prevention, consumer and family-oriented responses, family and individual outcomes, and provider accountability. The directory acknowledges that it is not a compilation of all, or even most, resource centers and clearinghouses with interests in service integration. Many university-based and free-standing centers and institutes are not included. The criterion for inclusion was that centers had been established with Federal funds specifically to serve as resource centers or clearinghouses of information on child and family welfare, health, and human service issues. The entries are grouped according to funding agency and categorized by general subject. The subjects are education, child and family welfare, child and family health, and health and justice. Each entry includes contact information and a brief summary of the organization's mission or purpose. Subject and alphabetical indexes of resource centers are provided.
