This article examines factors related to the police subculture, arguing that police officers view the world as being composed of insiders and outsiders, police officers and citizens.
Abstract
The article identifies three primary concepts of ethos prevalent in police subculture: the ethos of bravery, autonomy, and secrecy. The concept of theme in a culture is related to the belief systems or dynamic affirmations maintained by its members. The two dominant themes in the police subculture are social isolation and solidarity. Various postulates support these ethos concepts and themes. 56 references
