Participants looked at salient issues in corrections, such as privatization, contract management, correctional reform, and private sector involvement in corrections. Participants also discussed private security and policing, the relation between public and private police, community involvement in prison programs, community-based sanctions, and cultural factors affecting private sector involvement in the criminal justice system. Programs were described at the conference that involved privately operated services for offenders, the creative use of community care, services for violent and sex offenders, psychological services, substance abuse education, prisoner rehabilitation and resettlement, and mediation. Participants also considered community crime prevention and privatization in the juvenile justice system. References and tables
