In terms of political actions, adults are urged to vote, to teach children about the importance of the democratic political process, and to work for a political party. Adults can join a local, State, or national child advocacy organization, become a court-appointed special advocate (CASA), or act as a mentor to a child in need of a stable role model. Other suggestions included in this pamphlet: becoming a foster parent, adopting a child, creating effective parenting courses, and supporting respite care for families of disabled children. Citizen activists are urged to institute effective community crime prevention programs and to consider running for public office in order to bring about social change.
