Abstract
According to statistics, 152 people were detained in Great Britain in 1993 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, compared to 160 in 1992. One hundred forty-five of the detainees were held in connection with Northern Irish terrorism, while the remaining seven were held in connection with international terrorism. At the end of 1993, 71 persons remained subject to an exclusion order, fewer than in any year since 1975. Thirty-six of those detained in 1993 were either charged with an offense, deported, removed, or excluded; 18 persons were detained for more than 48 hours and not charged; and 323 were examined for more than 1 hour but not detained. 1 table, 10 appendix tables, and 11 notes
