This is a summary of the proceedings of the 13th Asian and Pacific Conference of Correctional Administrators (APCCA).
Abstract
This Conference held in Hong Kong on November 1993 was attended by senior representatives of 19 nations and territories in the Asian and Pacific region, generally the respective chief executive responsible for corrections. A listing of the participants is contained in an appendix. During this Conference, visits were arranged to relevant correctional institutions. Four agenda items were discussed at the Conference. These items included rights and treatment of unconvicted prisoners, the effective treatment of different types of offenders, public awareness and support for corrections, and international cooperation for corrections. Information contained in appendixes, in addition to the listing of conference participants, include a discussion guide for the APCCA, a report of APCCA Advisory Committee Meeting, and statistical data concerning prisoners in Asia and the Pacific-1993, and national participation in APCCA from 1980-1993. Recommended agenda items for the 1994 APCCA include management of intractable and protection prisoners, the application of technology and information systems in corrections, care and control of minority groups in prison, and staffing and management systems in corrections.
