The author spent several years studying preraid procedures and raid techniques employed by a wide variety of U.S. law enforcement agencies and developed the guide as a textbook on standard operating procedures used by the police in conducting raids. Police raids represent a common aspect of law enforcement and, depending on the targeted criminal activity, pose varying degrees of danger and complexity. Raid components include training, planning, preparation, intelligence, coordination, execution, and safety. In covering each of these components, the textbook deals with individual and team raid equipment, firearms training, close quarter shooting, tactical training, raid tactics, breaching (forced entry), first aid and medical emergencies, police officer safety and security, and intelligence collection. The textbook also reviews raid planning and execution and police stress and performance. Appendixes contain a list of additional readings, a glossary of terms, lists of equipment suppliers and associations, and information on prerequisites for successful raid operations.
