Annotation
This book review concerns the personal account and documentation of the author's (Tim Anderson) experience with the Australian criminal justice system in the course of his being arrested and tried for a bombing.
Abstract
The reviewer notes the author's account of his long-term political activism and commitment to exposing what he perceived to be perjury and malpractice by police officers. He examines the evidence in his case, with attention to an unsigned confession that was admitted into evidence. The reviewer credits the author with having a well-referenced book that exposes bias and flaws in the criminal justice system's procedure for dispensing justice. Also included in the book is a section entitled "The Criminal Justice System," which contains several papers in the form of essays on aspects of the criminal justice system, including the role of the prison informer. The reviewer advises that Anderson's practical and personal account of involvement with the criminal justice system should alert citizens to the need for constant and increasing vigilance, redefinition, and reformulation concerning the accountability of all aspects of Australia's major criminal justice institutions. 9 references
