Abstract
The overall mission of the Hungarian police is to protect public security and internal order. Police are specifically responsible for crime prevention and control, criminal investigations, and functions related to corrections. The central organ of the police is the National Police Headquarters; regional, county, and local police departments are responsible to headquarters. The police structure is organizationally subordinate to the Interior Ministry. The police law covers duties of the police chief and police officers, police operational tactics, criminal investigation procedures, police coercion, and police recordkeeping and data handling.
