In resolution 1993/31 the Council reaffirmed the importance of the crime prevention and criminal justice program and its crucial role in promoting international cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice, in responding to the needs of the international community in the face of national and transnational criminality, and in enabling member States to achieve the goals of preventing crime within and among States and improving the response to crime. The resolution also reaffirmed the role of the Commission as the primary policymaking body for the activities of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. Resolution 1992/22 requested the Secretary-General to take the necessary measures to commit the human and financial resources necessary to strengthen the United Nations crime prevention and criminal justice program as a whole. A report on the operational activities in the priority areas focuses on transnational crime, particularly organized, economic, and environmental criminality; urban crime prevention, with attention to juvenile and violent criminality; and crime prevention and efficiency, fairness, and improvement in the management and administration of criminal justice, including information management. Information is also provided on advisory services and assistance for peace-keeping operations for the reinforcement of democracy and justice. Three notes
