One hundred forty court, prison, police personnel and lay observers specially appointed to monitor the operation of Group 4's prisoner escort service in England were surveyed in the spring of 1994 to assess their satisfaction with it after a year of operation.
Abstract
The survey produced an 85 percent response rate. Results revealed that 83 percent of the sample agreed or strongly agreed that Group 4 had settled into the job well. All four surveyed groups said that relationships with Group 4 staff were good, but prison personnel had taken the longest to develop these good relationships. Fifty-two percent of the sample were satisfied with staffing levels, 21 percent were undecided, and 27 percent expressed some dissatisfaction. Group 4's punctuality and flexibility under pressure were viewed as satisfactory by 71 percent and 76 percent of the sample, respectively. Ninety percent of the court personnel believed that Group 4 provided an equal or better service than that provided before. Police staff and prison managers believed that the new escort service had freed them to do other tasks. Figures, tables, and list of publications from the same organization
