Abstract
Commissioned by the United States Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect, the eight papers focus on prevention, intervention, and treatment in child maltreatment both in the home and in out-of-home settings. The authors explain ways to strengthen neighborhoods, develop connections among and within families, and strengthen economic and social supports. They also propose the development of a society-wide effort in which child protection becomes a part of everyday life, recommend a research agenda, and identify specific strategies for use by all those who come into contact with children.
