The Scottish police recorded 1,767 crimes and offenses in which a firearm was alleged to have been used, a 9 percent decrease from 1992. The number of crimes and offenses in which a firearm was alleged to have caused an injury declined 18 percent to 315 cases. The number of robberies in which a firearm was allegedly used declined from 506 cases in 1992 to 395 cases in 1993. Firearms were alleged to have been used in 8 percent of attempted murders, 7 percent of robberies, and 4 percent of homicides. The main weapon used in gun-related cases was an airweapon, used in 58 percent of all cases, whereas a shotgun was used in 15 percent of the cases.
