The first five articles focus on juveniles. Four of these articles present results from analyses of various longitudinal data sets; the fifth article compares the results of urine and hair testing for drug use among juvenile arrestees. The next 11 articles focus on adults, many of whom are or have been involved with the criminal justice system. Four of the articles focus on women; two report on studies of women's involvement in crack distribution. Two articles use different longitudinal data sets to examine the factors that relate to narcotic addict careers and vulnerability to narcotic addiction. Three articles provide the results of inquiries into the relationship between substance use and crime; one of these probes the relationship between alcohol use and homicide, and two others elucidate the relationship between crack cocaine use, other drug use, and criminal behavior.
