The citation analysis investigated the number of times authors in American criminology were cited in prominent journals during the period between 1986 and 1990.
Abstract
The major criminology journals included in the study were Criminology, Journal of Quantitative Criminology, and Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency. The three criminal justice journals used in the study were Justice Quarterly, Criminal Justice and Behavior, and Journal of Criminal Justice. Articles published in these six journals are subject to a peer-review process. All authors cited in all articles published in these six journals during the study period were counted. The results showed that Marvin E. Wolfgang, Michael J. Hindeland, and Alfred Blumstein were the most frequently cited authors in these six journals. The results help to identify the most influential scholars and topics of relevant research during this period and can assist in the documentation of the historical development of criminology and criminal justice. 10 tables, 14 notes, and 66 references
