This report outlines the methods used by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority's Statistical Analysis Center to estimate age-specific population data that can be used with arrest data from published reports to calculate age-specific arrest rates.
Abstract
The report describes three data sets: (1) State, county, and Chicago total populations from 1970 to 2010; (2) age-specific populations of Illinois, counties around Chicago, and Chicago in 5-year age groups for those years; and (3) separate population data for 15- and 16-year-olds. In addition, estimates were calculated for the Chicago population of each age group in Chicago within specific gender and race/ethnicity categories. Population figures prior to 1980 are based on 1970 and 1980 Census figures. Figures and tables
