Abstract
Through mediation or conflict management, even young students can learn to use effective listening skills, to express themselves clearly and positively, and to deal with conflict constructively, both in the classroom and outside. This guide presents a program based on 10 sessions, each 30-45 minutes. The interactive curriculum, excerpted here, includes brief presentations, teacher demonstrations, and student role play practice. A successful program will help students to be responsible for their own behavior, to learn more effective ways to deal with conflict, to learn about cultural diversity issues, and to use conflict management as a life skill. The program is particularly helpful for students with anger management issues and may be used to empower shy, withdrawn students.
