Crime statistics are presented as of 1993 for 274 metropolitan areas and the 100 largest cities in the United States, along with data on the number of police patrolling the streets in the 100 largest cities.
Abstract
The statistical compilation is organized in three parts. The first part reports crime statistics for metropolitan areas, the second part reports crime statistics and police data for the 100 largest U.S. cities, and the third part consists of appendixes that provide population tables for cities and metropolitan areas. All statistics are derived from Crime in the United States 1993, an annual publication of the Federal Bureau of Investigation that reports crime statistics gathered under the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Metropolitan areas for which crime information is reported must have met two criteria: (1) at least 75 percent of law enforcement agencies must have reported crime statistics; (2) central cities must have submitted 12 months of data in 1993. Crime rankings are based on statistics reported for violent crime, property crimes, murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.
