This document outlines National Institute of Justice Standard 0225.00 on amplitude companded sideband transceivers, an equipment standard developed by the Law Enforcement Standards Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
Abstract
The standard specifies performance and other requirements for amplitude companded, sideband mobile transceivers used by law enforcement agencies. The standard applies to transceivers which either do not have special subsystems such as selective signaling or voice privacy or in which such subsystems are bypassed or disabled during testing for compliance with the standard. Equipment purchasers can use the test methods described in the standard to determine whether a particular piece of equipment meets essential requirements, or they can have the tests conducted on their behalf by a qualified testing laboratory. Procurement officials can also refer to the standard in their purchasing documents and require that equipment offered by purchase meet the requirements. Compliance with the standard can be attested to by an independent laboratory or guaranteed by the vendor. Because the standard is designed as a procurement aid, it is necessarily highly technical. The standard specifies requirements related to minimum performance, user information, performance at environmental extremes, receiver performance, and transmitter performance. 4 references and 12 figures
