This document presents abstracts that describe 10 substance abuse assessment instruments.
Abstract
The information provided for each instrument addresses the name of the instrument, the year developed, cost, the person(s) who developed it, the source, a contact person, purpose, target population, validity and reliability data, corrections population normed, administration/scoring, training requirements, and reading level/language versions. The Adolescent Self-Assessment Profile generates a profile that leads to a clinical assessment for a treatment plan and prevention recommendations; the Drug Offender Profile Evaluation/Referral Strategies determines specific probation supervision and treatment recommendations; the Offender Profile Index determines specific drug intervention disposition for the criminal justice decisionmaker; the TASC, Inc., assesses need, motivation, and level of treatment; the Problem Oriented Screening Instrument for Teenagers identifies problem areas that require more intensive diagnostic information; the Alcohol Dependence Scale assesses severity of the alcohol dependence syndrome; the Addiction Severity Index assesses drug problem and level of treatment needed; the Client Management Classification determines appropriate supervision strategies and human service needs; the Prototype Screening/Triage for Use in Detention assesses juvenile risk and needs within a detention setting; and the DC Pretrial Risk Assessment assesses risk of flight, substance abuse, and community safety.
