Many of the young people who entered the first phase of this project were homeless. The second phase of the project, which began the following year, set out to address these young people's housing problems and the barriers they created to completing educational and training programs, by offering the adolescents a package which linked employment training with training in the skills they needed to live independently. The 12-week training course offered by Youth Choices covered topics such as housing, interview skills, communication skills, budgeting, health, problem solving, and welfare rights and responsibilities. Positive outcomes have been reported in terms of youth training completion, successful employment, and improved accommodation.
