Each of the 26 lessons incorporates a variety of strategies to actively involve the students. The first component of the program stresses decisionmaking skills; the process outlined here includes gathering and evaluating information, generating alternatives, evaluating the consequences of each alternative, selecting an alternative, implementing the choice, and reinforcing the choice. The second section covers information on violence, emphasizing conflict resolution skills, de-escalation, and compromise. This curriculum takes a "no use" approach to the use of ATOD and does not support a responsible use approach; the program focuses on providing accurate information about alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and cocaine. The final section of the curriculum is aimed at helping young children become peer educators, positive role models, and socializing agents for their own peer group and their younger classmates. 6 appendixes
