This document describes a law enforcement equipment standard developed by the Law Enforcement Standards Laboratory at the National Bureau of Standards that covers microphone cable assemblies for mobile frequency-modulated (FM) transceivers.
Abstract
Adopted by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) as NIJ Standard 0217.00, the equipment standard is a technical document consisting of performance and other requirements and test methods. Purchasers can use test methods described in the standard to determine whether a particular equipment item meets the standard's requirements or they can have tests conducted on their behalf by a qualified testing laboratory. Law enforcement personnel can also reference the standard in purchase documents and require that any equipment offered for purchase meet the standard's requirements and that compliance be guaranteed by the vendor or attested to by an independent testing laboratory. The necessarily technical nature of the NIJ standard and its special focus as a procurement aid make it of limited use to those who need general guidance on microphone cable assemblies for mobile FM transceivers. Performance requirements are specified for configuration, user information, test sequence, mechanical durability, vibration stability, temperature stability, humidity stability, conductor resistance, insulation resistance, and interconductor capacitance. 11 references, 1 table, and 3 figures
