Statistics on California inmates are compiled for 1994 to characterize prison population movements in terms of arrivals and departures.
Abstract
In 1994, 41,582 new felony admissions and 2,822 civil narcotic addict (CNA) admissions were received from court. Also, 1,853 county diagnostic cases were received, 45,471 felony parole violators returned to custody, 17,009 felony parole violators returned with a new term from court, and 2,938 CNA outpatients returned to custody to finish their term or for a new civil commitment. In 1994, 96,673 felony inmates were released to parole from California Department of Corrections (CDC) institutions and temporary release status. Of these, 58,044 were first releases to parole and 38,629 were rereleases to parole. During the year, 1,967 county diagnostic cases were discharged from CDC institutions and temporary release status, 250 inmates died in CDC institutions or while on temporary release status, and 4,619 CNA's were released to outpatient status from CDC institutions or while on temporary release status. Detailed statistical data on prison population movements are provided.
