This pamphlet presents statistics on crime, offenders, sentencing, inmates, and criminal justice system employment and expenditures in England and Wales for 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, and 1993. ABST The data cover total reported crime, property crimes, violent crimes, offenses cleared by the police, and the numbers of offenders found guilty or cautioned for indictable offenses. Statistics are also provided on the numbers of persons receiving specific types of sentences, the persons supervised by the probation service, average annual prison populations, and the ethnic origins of inmates. Further data cover the expenditures for specific parts of the criminal justice system at current prices and at 1993-94 prices and the numbers of persons employed by each part of the criminal justice system. A total of 5.52 million offenses were reported in 1993; of these, 5.19 million were property offenses, 294,000 were violent offenses, and 41,000 were other offenses. Tables and figures
